NICOLINE TIMMER

The zig-zag pattern, used earlier in a floor relief (MAKING WAVES #2), returns here in the shape of a wool blanket, woven on a self-built loom. The design of the pattern is mine and started out as a quick sketch. I have used this pattern several times now over the years and so this shaky zig-zag has become somewhat of a leitmotiv in my work.

I am fascinated by languages, sign systems, that are a first attempt at communicating something, by visual languages that hover somewhere in between a very idiosyncratic, almost private language, and pure abstraction.
